Please note that the marker shows the general area around the cotttage and not its exact location.

Gomersal is well known for its many old houses, buildings and cottages.

The Spen Valley area in general is also known for the Luddite uprising of 1812 when rioters protested against the introduction of power looms into the mills. Many rioters were injured or killed and the ringleaders executed . The events of this time are told through the novel 'Shirley' by Charlotte Bronte.

The nearby Oakwell Hall in Birstall, is the starting point of the 'Bronte Way', a  45 mile (73km) circular route which links several locations associated with the lives and literary works of the Bronte family.

As a visitor to Gomersal you can have the best of both worlds, with access to  pleasant lanes, footpaths and country park, with the exciting cities of Leeds, Bradford and Halifax on your door step. Even the city of York is only an hour away.
